Reading and study of the third section of the Hebrew canon, including poetry (Psalms, Song of Songs), wisdom (Proverbs, Ecclesiastes), saga (Job), heroines (Ruth, Esther) and post-exilic history (Ezra-Nehemiah).

Required Texts

  • The Holy Bible (New King James Version)
  • Chronological and Background Charts of the Old Testament (revised and expanded edition), by John H. Walton (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Zondervan, 1994)
  • A good Old Testament introduction—such as Old Testament Survey (second edition) by LaSor, Hubbard and Bush (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Eerdmans, 1996) or Introduction to the Old Testament by R.K. Harrison (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Eerdmans, 1969)—is recommended.

Educational Bio

Ralph Levy holds a B.A. honors degree in linguistics and modern languages from the University of York, England; a B.A. degree in theology from Ambassador University; an M.A. degree in education from California State University, Los Angeles; and a Ph.D. in biblical studies from Union Institute and University of Cincinnati, Ohio. He taught Spanish, ESL, education, speech and theology at Ambassador College/University in Pasadena, California, and Big Sandy, Texas (1975-1996) and theology at Ambassador Bible Center in Milford, Ohio (2000-2010). He serves as the Academic Affairs officer of Foundation Institute.
